High school girl death case: Funeral held, Thirthahalli tensed

Shimoga, Nov 2: The funeral of the girl who died in a Manipal hospital on Friday was held on Saturday evening amid tensions in Thirthahalli town of Shimoga district.
Meanwhile the father of the deceased girl has said that the girl was forced to drink a soft drink with some intoxicating substance mixed with it. Then the three persons allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The Thirthahalli town observed bandh on Saturday in protest of the alleged rape and death of the girl. There were attempts of stone pelting during the funeral procession. Police personnel had to resort to lathi charge in few instances. A car suspected to have been used by the culprits was also damaged. A person was also manhandled because of suspicion. Additional security arrangements were made in town.
In other parts of Shimoga district also, silent protests were held on Saturday.
The high school student was taken in car while going to school on October 29 and was allegedly sexually assaulted by unknown persons. Later she was found on the road when the villagers came to her help. The student who was admitted to a local hospital first and later to Shimoga and Manipal hospitals breathed her last on October 31.
Police are still on the lookout for the culprits. It is said that they have constituted three teams to apprehend them.
