Free Internet Wi-fi access in Delhi’s Connaught Place from Nov 16

Tata Teleservices Limited, in association with the New Delhi Municipal Council, will launch public wi-fi access in Connaught Place in the national capital Nov 16, a company statement said here Friday.
The wi-fi service in Connaught Place will cover more than 4.5 sq. km. The deployment of wi-fi hotspot will ensure seamless connectivity in the inner and outer circles of one of the most significant business and leisure centres in the city, it said.
The launch is in sync with the emerging trends of data consumption especially by the younger generation for whom it is imperative to stay connected round-the-clock, the statement added.
Recently, the Telangana government in partnership with the telecom service provider Airtel has begun free Wi-Fi facility in 17 locations spreading 8 km in Hyderabad on a pilot basis for 3 months to be extended to the entire city by the year end.
Several global cities like Seoul, Los Angels, San Jose, more than 50 cities in the US and another 100 in Europe and elsewhere offer free wi-fi facility. According to a 2010 survey, free Wi-Fi helped cities grow their GDP by 0.3% and businesses in the localities almost doubled their enquiry leads due to the Wi-Fi provided freely in the area.
