Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G Bundled With Free 5200mAh Mi Power Bank on Wednesday

Xiaomi India has announced that the Redmi Note 4G will come bundled with free Mi Power Bank (5200mAh) only when purchasing via retail stores on Wednesday. The offer is only for a day on the Mi Fan Festival, which is being held commemorate the company's fifth anniversary.
To get a free 5200mAh Mi Power Bank, interested consumers will have to buy the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G from outlets of Airtel or The Mobile Store on Wednesday. Notably, the Redmi Note 4G is also available via exclusive online retailer of Xiaomi products, Flipkart.
The company announced the news via a tweet on Monday and said, "Get a Mi Power Bank 5200mAh free when you purchase a Redmi Note 4G from Airtel India or The Mobile Stores."
The move is quite plainly an attempt by the Chinese company to increase sales of its Redmi Note 4G handsets that recently went on sale in India via these physical retail stores. The company late last month announced that two of its smartphones - the Mi 4 and the Redmi Note 4G - would be available via physical retail stores.
Before making the announcement, Xiaomi initially experimented with selling the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G via Airtel's physical stores. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is available at its usual price of Rs. 9,999.
It's worth noting that the Mi Power Bank of 5200mAh capacity is listed as out of stock on both Flipkart as well Mi.com - as is the 10400mAh variant.
Xiaomi India last month started selling accessories via its own official site, apart from its exclusive online partner in the country - Flipkart. The Mi India site listed various accessories such as Mi In-Ear headphone priced at Rs. 799; Mi In-Ear headphones Basic at Rs. 500; Redmi Soft Gel Protective Case at Rs. 369, and Redmi Note Flip Case at Rs. 559. The Chinese company also sold the Mi Power Bank of 5200mAh and 10400mAh capacities.

How To Make Money on YouTube

1. Make Sure You Have an AdSense Account

While the process to be able to display ads on your YouTube videos is a separate one, your earnings and stats will go together with your AdSense account, so you need to have one.
In theory you could apply to become a YouTube partner before having an AdSense account, and in case you get accepted you would then follow up with an AdSense application. I believe the other way around is much simpler, though.

2. Grow Your Audience on YouTube

One of the most important criteria the YouTube guys will use to evaluate your application is the audience you reach on YouTube. They don’t reveal what are the requirements, but I’ve seen many people say these are the ballpark numbers you need to have before getting accepted:
  • at least 1,000 subscribers
  • at least 1,000 views on all your videos
  • at least 10,000 channel views
These are the very minimum though, if you want to make sure you’ll get accepted I would aim for 5,000 subscribers, 50,000 channel views and over 1,000,000 upload views total.

3. Get Videos Out There Regularly

If you only have one or two videos uploaded your chances of getting accepted are low, even if those videos went viral. That’s because YouTube is looking for people who are planning to work with them over the long term.
The more regularly and frequently you upload new videos, the better. For instance, someone who uploads a new video every day will have a better chance of getting accepted than someone who uploads one every couple of weeks.
You also want to make sure you have at least 100 uploaded videos before applying to become a partner (though some people say 50 will be enough).

4. Develop A Brand Around Your Videos

This step is not essential, but I think it helps a lot on getting approve. You need to remember that, once you meet the technical guidelines, it will be a person on the other site deciding on whether you are a good fit for becoming a YouTube Partner or not. In other words, the more professional you look the higher your chances.
Practical tips include:
  • Create a website to host your videos and give your audience more wayts to interact
  • Create a nice logo and use it everywhere
  • Use a watermark on your videos with your logo
  • Consider getting a professional intro made for your videos
  • Customize your YouTube channel to make it look professional

5. Make Sure Your Content Has Zero Copyrighted Material

If there’s one thing that will get your application rejected on the spot is copyright infringement, so make sure you have zero copyrighted material on your videos.
This includes images, graphics, logos, video clips and audio. For instance, even just using a music on the background which you don’t have permission to could get your application rejected.

6. Apply to Become a YouTube Partner

After you followed all the previous steps you are ready to apply. You can do that via the official YouTube Partner Program page. It might take a while to get your application considered due to the load of people applying, but once you get accepted you’ll be able to start displaying ads on your videos right away.
Good luck!

Microsoft phones still a pain in the apps

Microsoft once was a heavy-hitter in the mobile phone market. But that was years ago, before phones became smart and Apple and Android conquered the market. Today, Microsoft finds itself on the outside looking in, which is ironic because windows are for looking out.
There’s nothing wrong with the operating software Microsoft has come up with for Windows phones. Windows Phone 8.1 has a nice look and feel to it and is fast. It has its own version of Siri, called Cortana, and integrates well with other Microsoft products through OneDrive, its cloud service.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has fallen so far behind that, if there were a racehorse named Windows Phone, it would be 40 lengths behind coming into the homestretch. According to research firm IDC, Windows phones claimed just 2.7 percent of the mobile market worldwide last year (compared with 81.5 percent for Android and 14.8 for Apple). Moreover, Microsoft lost about half a percent of market share in 2014, despite closing its acquisition of Nokia about a year ago.
The problem for Microsoft is not technology, it’s apps. Or rather, lack of them. The Windows Store resembles a mom-and-pop drugstore after Walmart and Target move into the neighborhood. Want a few really good browsers to choose from? Forget it. Keyboards? No way. And don’t even think about Google Maps or YouTube.
Microsoft is hoping to change the dynamic with Windows 10, due out this year. The operating system supposedly will run on all platforms, regardless of screen size. That means an application developed for Windows PCs also will work on Microsoft tablets and phones — and vice versa.
But how does that help Microsoft? Nobody is writing applications for PCs anymore, and most mobile apps for iOS and Android can run both on tablets and phones. By making its Surface tablets and Windows phones cross-compatible, Microsoft would just be catching up — a move unlikely to dramatically spur further app development for Windows.
Microsoft also is hoping to get other phone makers to adopt Windows 10 so it doesn’t have to rely so heavily on Lumia (the new brand name for Nokia phones). But again, until there are more quality apps, that probably won’t happen.
Q: At the end of this month we are going to France for a week. Is there a cost-effective way to use a Verizon iPhone 5C for driving directions while we’re there?
A: You are so lucky. Starting with the iPhone 5, Verizon left the SIM slots unlocked so the phones can be used internationally. All you need is a prepaid SIM card (your iPhone takes a Nano SIM) from a French wireless carrier. You can wait until you get there and buy one at any wireless store (even at the airport), but the smart move is to get one shipped to you now so that you don’t have to deal with the hassle at the start of your vacation.
Orange, the biggest wireless company in France, offers its Orange Holiday SIM card for $58 (at www.store.orange.com/us). It includes voice and texting time and 1 gigabyte of data — which should suffice, since online GPS mapping services don’t use much data (although GPS is a battery hog). The Orange card also comes with access to Orange Maps, although either Apple Maps or Google Maps may be a better choice.
All that said, it’s easier — and just a little more expensive — to forgo the SIM card and opt instead for GPS in your rental car. Big rental companies charge about $10 a day for in-dash GPS, which includes maps, loads of preset destinations, and turn-by-turn voice navigation in English. Plus, they’ll work in areas where your phone may not get a decent signal.
Q: Whatever happened to the Do Not Call list? I get all kinds of unwanted calls on both my land line and my cell.
A: The Do Not Call Registry, which you can sign up for at www.donotcall.gov, is a joke. The Federal Trade Commission, which administers the registry, states that “Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this website.” I won’t even dignify that with a snide comment.
Your only realistic option is to block offending numbers, but keep in mind that many big direct marketers use multiple phone numbers and/or change them frequently to avoid getting blocked. Also, Do Not Call doesn’t apply to nonprofit organizations or companies with which you’ve done business in the past.

Happy Birthday Microsoft: What Microsoft Looks Like at Age 40

Microsoft sign outside building 99
Forty years ago today, on April 4, 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft. In the beginning, the small tech firm developed and sold BASIC interpreters. At the time neither Gates nor Allen had any idea that they just started what would become one of the largest software firms in the world.
Today, Microsoft is a part of almost everyone's life in one form or another. Whether its from using the Windows operating system which still holds approximately 90 percent of the personal computer market share or from its Office suite, one of the best productivity suites available. Today, some may even be using some of Microsoft's various cloud services or even enjoy a game or too on one of the Xbox consoles.
In the last 40 years, Microsoft has expanded into many different categories becoming both as software and hardware vendor. Today, it even creates software and hardware for computers, smartphones and even tablets. But at its core Microsoft is still a software company producing some of the best software in the world and holding patents for software on other platforms further expanding its revenue.
"Early on, Paul Allen and I set the goal of a computer on every desk and in every home. It was a bold idea and a lot of people thought we were out of our minds to imagine it was possible. It is amazing to think about how far computing has come since then, and we can all be proud of the role Microsoft played in that revolution", Gates wrote in an email sent to all Microsoft employees yesterday.
"In the coming years, Microsoft has the opportunity to reach even more people and organizations around the world. Technology is still out of reach for many people, because it is complex or expensive, or they simply do not have access. So I hope you will think about what you can do to make the power of technology accessible to everyone, to connect people to each other, and make personal computing available everywhere even as the very notion of what a PC delivers makes its way into all devices."
It's been a crazy forty years for the software company as it picked fights with many of its competitors and even found itself embroiled in various antitrust probes. Bill Gates laid the foundation upon which Microsoft is built with Steve Ballmer expanding the company into new fields including gaming with the Xbox. Now, Satya Nadella has taken the helm and is making bold decisions to move Microsoft forward into the future.
"Under Satya's leadership, Microsoft is better positioned than ever to lead these advances. We have the resources to drive and solve tough problems. We are engaged in every facet of modern computing and have the deepest commitment to research in the industry. In my role as technical advisor to Satya, I get to join product reviews and am impressed by the vision and talent I see. The result is evident in products like Cortana, Skype Translator, and HoloLens -- and those are just a few of the many innovations that are on the way."
Satya has changed things for Microsoft under is unwavering mobile first, cloud first strategy. This strategy, though different from how the company has operated in the past, seems to be working for the company.
Under his leadership, Microsoft has begun to open up about its shortcomings and working to follow its users. It finally released an iOS version of Office and redid the previously half-baked version that was available. This decision proved wise as the Office app shot to the top of the charts.
"We have accomplished a lot together during our first 40 years and empowered countless businesses and people to realize their full potential. But what matters most now is what we do next", Gates writes in his email.
Microsoft does indeed have a lot of good things going for it. Later this year it will release Windows 10, and Office 2016 is headed to both PC and Mac devices together for the first time. In addition Microsoft has showcased a number of products that could change how we interact with technology such as its augmented reality headset HoloLens.

Apple Watch's Swiss debut delayed by patent snag

Apple may have to wait a little longer before it can go toe-to-toe with the luxury watchmakers in their home country.
The launch of Apple Watch could be delayed in Switzerland, known as the birthplace of luxury watches, due to a patent owned by watch brand Leonard, which bars the tech titan from using the image of an apple or the word "apple" within the country, according to Swiss broadcaster RTS. Reuters earlier picked up on the report.
Any delay would be temporary; the patent is set to expire December 5.
All eyes are on the Apple Watch, which makes up the company's first new product category since the iPad and the first under CEO Tim Cook. The Apple Watch will be on display and available for fittings starting April 10, and it hits the market in many countries on April 24.
The Swiss watchmakers will likely be closely monitoring Apple's smartwatch as a potential new competitor. The company will be hitting the luxury market for the first time with models that cost as much as $17,000.

Facebook decides to join hands with ‘Genes for Good’ project for health & genetic information of users

CALIFORNIA: University of Michigan has started a program to discover cures for the diseases and illness that have been haunting the humans for ages. The project is called ‘Genes for Good’ and the researchers working on the project have decided to partner with Facebook – the biggest online social network in the world.
